Animated series produced by Rainbow CGI, Bardel and Netflix
Introduction
At Rainbow CGI, I worked as a modeller and grooming Artist in the production of the Netflix show Mermaid Magic, a family fantasy serial about the adventures of high school heroines on a mission to save the magical undersea kingdom of Mertropia, tackling topical issues such as environmental protection and the preservation of the oceans.
Challenge
Bringing the vibrant underwater world of Mermaid Magic to life required precision and imagination. The challenge lay in faithfully translating rich 2D concepts into detailed 3D models and groomed characters that were not only visually stunning but also optimized for animation. Maintaining consistency across environments, props, and characters — while working within a collaborative, fast-paced pipeline — demanded technical rigor and strong cross-department communication.
Approach
I modeled props, environments, and characters with clean, animation-ready topology, ensuring seamless integration into the production pipeline. Alongside modeling and grooming, I developed facial blendshapes to support expressive character animation, maintaining fidelity to the show’s stylized aesthetic. Active collaboration with other departments and continuous dialogue with the modeling supervisor allowed me to quickly solve challenges, adapt to evolving feedback, and contribute to a cohesive and polished final product.
